Network cables are CAT6, tried two different ones both working at gigabit speeds connected to other machines and my switch is most definitely gigabit: While my via Epia board board itself is performing well, the Realtek NICs seem ill supported by the Linux kernel at times. Then left clicked and installed with YAST. You may try to download the correct driver from realtek and install it sometimes it is not recognized properly.

Realtek does have some BSD drivers but they require kernel recompile plus 8110sf BSD already detects the cards as Gigabit, it just doesn’t seem to negotiate at that speed.
Reboot and check again that the driver is loaded. Does anyone have any advice on how to remedy this situation?

Are you sure the other end supports, and negotiates, Gbit? Sat Mar 12, 6: So again I turned to the r driver provided by Realtek and tried to compile it. Are you new to LinuxQuestions.

I don’t think that the configuration is incorrect, because mostly the network works fine. After 2 Mainboard changes it seems that the Realtek ethernet card on the Asus board is buggy same problem on all 3 boards!
